About Us

Serving the Community Since 1944

The CYHS Journey

Founded in 1944, CYHS is a nonprofit social service agency established to address the needs for youth and family services in Madison County. As CYHS has responded to the needs of the community and surrounding area, the facilities and programs to support the available resources has changed over the years. From education to maternal and family health programs, the staff at CYHS will provide you, your child or your family with resources that are personalized to your needs.

Although originally founded as Coordinated Youth Services, the name was adjusted to include “Human Services” as diverse programs were added, extending assistance beyond youth programs and into the families of many.
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program started as a means to support women in Illinois. Breastfeeding support, as well as nutrition education, is part of the WIC Program.
As part of the human services provided by CYHS, the Madison County AIDS Program (MadCAP) was formed in 1986 to raise HIV/AIDS prevention awareness to individuals and families while also responding to the needs of those affected.
The Educational Enhancement Program (EEP) was officially launched. Special needs youth and their families benefit from personalized education plans that are not accessible in a standard classroom.
As more programs were created, there became a need for additional space. CYHS moved to its current location on Madison Avenue in Granite City, Illinois.

Family Case Management (FCM) was added to accompany the WIC program to better serve CYHS families.
The EEP expanded leasing space from the Granite City School District at Lake School to accommodate students enrolled in the program.
As community needs continued to grow, CYHS added Healthy Families Illinois (HFI). This program is specifically for first-time parents with the goal to reduce child abuse and neglect.
In 2007, the EEP moved into a new 19,500 square foot building at the River’s Edge Educational Facility. This new space was specifically designed to serve the student population CYHS serves.
An additional CYHS Maternal Child Health (MCH) location opened within the Madison County Health Department in Wood River to better serve clients in the region.
