Health Screenings & Prevention

Regular health screenings are part of a complete health plan, and CYHS may be able to provide screenings at no cost to the individual.

Our goal is to educate and empower the community in an effort to reduce the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through presentations, outreach, risk reduction counseling and walk-in testing services.

Are you at-Risk?

  • Have you had unprotected sex? (oral, anal or vaginal)
  • Are you a man who has had sex with another man?
  • Have you had multiple sexual partners?
  • Have you injected drugs, steroids or shared needles or syringes with others?

CYHS OFFERS:

  • Free walk-in testing Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Rapid Determine testing so that clients receive test results in 20 minutes for HIV and Hepatitis C.
  • Gonorrhea and Chlamydia (urine sample) results take about a week.
  • If a positive test result is received, individuals are counseled and provided resources to assist.

StaySafe

  • Use latex condoms to best protect against STIs and pregnancy.
  • Do not use oil-based lubrication with latex condoms. It will break down the condom, causing holes which can result in STIs or pregnancy.
  • Use water-based lubrication with latex condoms.
  • Ask about PrEP or Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. This is an HIV medication taken daily by individuals who are at a higher risk of contracting HIV. It lowers their chances of getting infected.
